— Japan June Supermarket Sales -3.9% Y/Y Vs May -1.7%
— Supermarket Sales Fall For 4 Months In Row

TOKYO (MNI) – Sales at supermarkets in Japan open for at least a
year fell 3.9% in June from a year earlier to Y1.009 trillion, posting
the fourth straight y/y drop after -1.7% in May and -1.9% in April, an
industry group said on Monday.

Poor weather conditions, such as heavy rainfall and low
temperatures, as well as a typhoon, hit June sales, the Japan Chain
Stores Association said.

The latest figures are based on the combined sales at 57
supermarket chains which together operate 7,810 outlets. The numbers
have been adjusted to facilitate comparisons on a same-store basis.

Including sales at stores newly opened during the past year,
revenues fell 4.7% in June after -2.0% in May.
