JAPAN: Looks like Japan’s auto unions may not be celebrating St Patty’s
Day, though we’re not exactly sure that’s a big day in Japan anyway.
Nikkei News reporting that besieged automaker Toyota apparently will not
accede to union demands for a bonus of 5mths pay plus Y100,000 for all
union employees, the stakes for this year’s annual wage round.
Apparently Toyota’s proposal if 5 mths salary minus Y180k as well as
automatic pay raises, Toyota apparently worried that its business
climate will remain “harsh.” At Fuji Heavy, maker of Subaru’s, Nikkei
says management has decided to take a pass on union demands for a wage
hike while the report notes wage talks ongoing at Nissan and Daihatsu.
