Japanese electricity supply tightened back in January, resulting in shortages.

Precautionary measures are being urged by the trade and industry ministry (METI). Shortages are feared in coming summer months as well as next winter.

METI minister Hiroshi Kajiyama warned of the most severe power supply conditions in the past few years this summer, with the difficulty of ensuring enough power generation capacity in the Tokyo area during the following winter.
