TOKYO (MNI) – The value of construction orders received by the 50
largest contractors in Japan rose 24.3% in October from a year earlier
to Y729.0 billion, the first rise in two months. the Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said on Wednesday.

The October reading followed a 9.3% fall in September and was the
seventh year-on-year increase this year.

The breakdown for the latest month follows:

— Domestic private sector: +7.1% y/y at Y442.4 billion, the first
rise in two months.

— Public sector: +115.8% y/y at Y220.4 billion, the fourth
straight y/y gain.

— Overseas: -26.7% y/y at Y22.2 billion, a second straight month
of decline.
