As the selection process intensified this month, government officials said Mr. Abe and Finance Minister Taro Aso, who also holds the deputy prime minister title, were at odds over their preferred candidates.
But tensions eased Monday after Mr. Abe’s selection of Mr. Kuroda as BOJ governor and academic Kikuo Iwata as one of the two deputy governors became public, those familiar with the nomination process said.
