Yasuhisa Shiozaki was named as health minister today and his role puts him in charge of revamping the huge Japanese pension fund GPIF. It’s therefore surprising that in one of his first public comments he has said that it’s best to leave any GPIF diversification to experts.
He also added;
- He will do whatever he can to reform the GPIF
- The top priority is the interests of future pensioners
- Wants new GPIF governance structure as soon as possible
Of course I’m not saying he should be in charge of each individual investment move but given he’s been one of the loudest of Abe’s cronies calling for the reforms you’d think he’d be a bit more committed in his comments.
Bloomers has a decent rundown on Shiozaki here
