Larry Summers sent Bill Clinton advice Hillary's debates with Bernie Sanders
I'm combing through the Podesta emails today for Fed talk. Aside from Daniel Tarullo in his old role as a White House advisor getting brushed off and passed over for an appointment, I haven't found much.
Larry Summers does make an appearance after an email he sent to someone (who appears to be a Bill Clinton aide) earlier this year on the Democratic debates, was forwarded to John Podesta, who sarcastically calls Summers "brilliant" he responded.
"Worst advice ever. Wrong then, wrong now. + let's attack him for being against TARP. Brilliant," he wrote.
The Clinton aide agreed and didn't even bother to brief Bill Clinton on the note.
Only about 30% of the emails have been released. Perhaps there is some juicy Federal Reserve talk to come.
In another email shortly after Obama is elected, Bob Pirie trashes Summers.
"I am concerned that the appointment for Treasury Secretary offers either a great opportunity or a lost one or in one case would create a future problem. The latter, obviously, is Larry Summers who is an extra bright version of Donald Rumsfeld, arrogantly unpleasant to his subordinates, dismissive to his equals and pandering to his superiors. I spent some time with Neil Rudenstine on Wednesday, and he would use even stronger terms and would be happy to talk to anyone on the subject..."
He suggested Geithner instead, who ultimately got the job. Rudenstine worked with Summers at Harvard.
