Juncker to lay out plans for screening foreign takeovers in EU

Jean-Claude Juncker, the president of the European Commission, will set out plans for for more thorough vetting of Chinese and other foreign on Wednesday.

  • In his "State of the Union" speech to the European Parliament

So reports the Financial Times, citing "people briefed on the plans "
  • assess whether takeovers in sensitive industries such as the energy and high tech sectors raise security concerns.
  • planned "European enabling framework" for a takeover raising cross-border, or pan-EU concerns
  • foreign takeovers of companies involved in sensitive EU-funded projects (eg. Galileo satellite-navigation system)
