The Kremlin has released a statement following a discussion between Putin and Obama:
- Putin told Obama sanctions are counterproductive
- Both agree “current situation” not in the interest of either country
- “Significant differences” remain between US and Russian leaders but both agree on importance of “immediate and sustained ceasefire” in East Ukraine
The White House also released a statement:
- Obama reiterated “deep concerns” about Russia’s support for separatists
- Both agreed to keep “channels of communication” open
Separately, VP Biden said the US will give about $8m in new aid to Ukraine’s border service including engineering and surveillance equip, transport and patrol vehicles, small boats. … How much of that can you buy for $8 million?
