It's all going wrong

The best thing the "Malthouse Compromise" had going for it was branding. The name sounded like a mature way to a solution as the Brexit deadline looms.

Alas, it's falling apart according to BuzzFeed. A trip to Northern Ireland among the Alternative Arrangements Working Group was called off at the last second today.

"BuzzFeed News can reveal that the AAWG descended into acrimony on Wednesday amid a cancelled trip to Northern Ireland, distrust between Brexiteers and ministers, complaints that the workings of the group breach the civil service code, and the beginning of what threatens to become an existential split within the crucial European Research Group of Brexiteer MPs."

The story also details how even adding a time limit to the Irish border backstop now probably won't be enough for several Conservative Brexiters and that their positions have hardened. The ERG also appears to be splitting.
