UK PM David Cameron said today that antibiotic-resistant bugs threaten to send the world back to the dark ages of medicine and pledged the UK will lead a global effort to develop new drugs.

“This is not some distant threat, but something happening right now,” Cameron told the Times. “If we fail to act, we are looking at an almost unthinkable scenario where antibiotics no longer work and we are cast back into the dark ages of medicine, where treatable infections and injuries will kill once again. That simply cannot be allowed to happen and I want to see a stronger, more coherent global response.”

First of all, people need to take the full cycle of antibiotics to help prevent this. Second of all, the refusal of people to take the full cycle raises some troubling questions about humanity, freedom and our collective stupidity.
