  • ISM Non-Manufacturing Index in Sept. 50.9 from 48.4 in August the first time over 50 since August 2008 and the highest since May 2008.

Comments

  • World Bank President Robert Zoellick speaking in Istanbul says he sees $40 million in lending to middle-income countries this year. He sends a strong message to developing economies that they need to be prepared in case of further economic setbacks in 2010.
  • Reserve Bank of Australia’s decision on Australian interest rates is due out at 11.30pm EST tonight where no change in rates is expected although market sentiment is for a rise in rates probably next month. Prior to the interest rate decision is the release of the Australian Trade Balance at 8.30

Currencies

The Japanese Yen strengthening right out of the gate this morning in New York from 89.50 to 89.55 against the dollar, 131.50 to 130.90 against the Euro and 143.30 to 142.70 against sterling. Euro against the dollar slipping from 1.4625 to 1.4590 and sterling from 1.5950 to 1.5900 on the move.

Dollar-yen since the European close has hung quietly in a 89.45 – 55 range.

Euro on the other hand traded with a bid tone extending its gains to a high of 1.4669. Sterling looking stronger traded to a high of 1.5960 before slipping back and consolidating around the 1.5940 level.

Dollar-Swiss quietly tracking the dollar traded lower.

Australian, Canadian and New Zealand dollars hold onto their gains closing the session close to their highs.
