Annual tourism forecasts released by New Zealand's ministry of business, innovation and employment
- Sees annual tourist arrivals rising 37% to 5.1m to 2024, from 3.7m in 2017
- Equivalent to annual pace of 4.6% a year
- Total spending will rise 40% to NZD 14.76 bn in 2024, or 4.9% a year
The annual pace of arrivals is slower than the 4.8% projected in last year's outlook. Meanwhile, the projected pace of spending is also slower than the 6.2% in last year's outlook.
Although New Zealand relies heavily on agriculture, tourism also contributes a major part towards the economy - especially when you account for the flow-on effects.
