- Says Michael strengthens to a major hurricane, life-threatening storm surge, hurricane force winds, and heavy rainfall expected along the north-eastern gulf coast
- is about 270 mi (435 km) south-southwest of Apalachicola Florida with maximum sustained winds of 120 mph (195 km/h)
- some additional strengthening is expected, and hurricane Michael is forecast to be a major hurricane at landfall in Florida
- says weakening is expected after landfall as moves through the south-eastern US
