A slightly softer session for Asian equities today

Nikkei 21-05

The Nikkei is closing a tad lower, torn between the push higher in Wall Street overnight and the softness seen in US futures to start the new day.

Elsewhere, the Hang Seng is down by 0.2% while the Shanghai Composite is down by 0.1% with the latter not really showing much signs of pricing in hope that Chinese officials will be rolling out aggressive stimulus measures as the NPC begins tomorrow.

That said, there's still time for that as the meeting lasts for about a week or so.

In the currencies space, the dollar is leading the charge with the pound, aussie and kiwi the notable laggards as we see cable start to slip below 1.2200 to start the session.
