Tokyo's main index closes marginally higher in volatile trading

The index closes just off the lows, but surrendered gains sustained early in the session. Nikkei futures took a dive, which in turn impacted S&P 500 futures as well. There doesn't seem to be much else into the move right now, but it looks to be contained to just Japan - among the Asian region that is.
The Hang Seng remains solid on the day, up by 1.22%. So, that will at least give some indication to European traders that we're not seeing a turnaround in sentiment just yet.
