The renewed COVID-19 outbreak in New Zealand has prompted Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern to announce the election will be delayed.

Both Ardern's coalition partner and opposition parties called for the postponement.

Election put back by 4 weeks. October 17 is the new date. Ardern says she is not planning to change the date again.

NZ parliament will sit until September 6.
