- GDP growth slowed in 2018 more than was expected by the RBNZ
(ASB referring here to the latest projection for Q4 GDP from the RBNZ was at 0.8%)
- Downside risks to 2019 growth are accumulating
- Still a risk of a rate cut this year, but the most likely next move is May 2021 rate hike
Westpac:
- economy lost some momentum over H2 of 2018 but not as much as we thought
- thus more confident that growth momentum will pick up again this year
