BERLIN (MNI) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday that he
wants to see a quick solution to the Eurozone debt crisis, given that it
is also affecting Russia’s economy.
“Naturally, we have a great interest that the Eurozone is
stabilized as quickly as possibly,” Putin said at a joint press
conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel after their meeting
here.
“Which instruments are used for this is up to our European
colleagues, but we assume that an optimal solution will be found,” the
president said. It was Putin’s first visit to Berlin after being
re-elected president.
Merkel reaffirmed her opposition to issuing joint eurobonds to
combat the crisis. Rather, consolidation of public budgets and reforms
to increase competitiveness are the right approach to deal with the
Eurozone’s problems, she reiterated.
