Over the last 25 years I have seen some really silly moves happen between Christmas and the New Year when liquidity is almost non-existent. Big players can use these times to move the market in their preferred direction and then take advantage of these moves when liquidity returns in early January. Some others leave it until the very last minute to cover their FX exposure for the year end. Very few of the moves at this time of year are related to logic.
