Further comments by SNB head Thomas Jordan

  • Rate differential to Eurozone is very important
  • But SNB decides monetary policy independently within its mandate
  • Don't see any reason to change policy currently
  • SNB doesn't give forecasts on interest rate path

Jordan is taking questions from reporters now, and when asked if the SNB could act before the ECB he says that they don't give forecast on interest rates but they do take into account international factors.

I think diverting the question with a statement like that says a lot about how closely they are following the ECB's rate policy.
