The air to air missile was launched by a Spanish plane, a Eurofighter Typhoon 2000. The missile was (or perhaps still is) armed. it has a self-destruct feature that should activate when launched accidentally but it is unclear this occurred.
Estonian armed forces are conducting a search for the missile. The last presumed location of the missile was 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of the Estonian town of Tartu.
