The RBNZ appoints a new leader

Graeme Wheeler will replace Alan Bollard when his term ends on Sept. 25.

Wheeler is a former World Bank managing director and Treasurer. He spent much of his career in New Zealand’s Treasury and was the leader of the country’s debt management office.

Wheeler was seen as a strong candidate but RBNZ deputy gov Grant Spencer was the frontrunner. He has been called “quiet and unassuming”
