October 21, 2016. The JPY is the strongest. The GBP is the weakest.
As the NA traders enter for the trading day, the snapshot of the strongest and weakest currencies show the JPY is the strongest currency while the GBP is the weakest. The USD is mostly higher with modest gains against the EUR, JPY, CHF, and NZD. The greenback is lower againtst the JPY and AUD.
Looking at the changes and ranges for the day. the major currency pairs are all trading below their 22 day averages (about a month of trading). Note the JPY crosses are all under pressure and trading at/near the lows for the day. Kuroda spoke today. It did not help to weaken the Yen.
European stocks are trading mixed but more near the lows:
- German DAX unchanged
- France's CAC -0.17%
- Euro Stoxx, --0.11
- UK FTSE +0.33
In the US, the pre-market ffutures are lower:
- S&P futures - 5.5
- NASDAQ futures down -3.0
- Dow Futures -39.00
European bonds are little changed in yield in the 10 year sector. US bond yields are also unchanged.
Crude oil futures are up $.31 to $50.94 or +0.61%.
Spot gold is at 1266.35, +$0.58 or +0.05% on the day.
Canada CPI (core 1.8% YoY, +0.2% MoM, 1.5% yoy headline with MoM +0.2%), and retail sales (0.3% for both headlinea and the ex auto) are due out at 8:30 AM ET. There is no US economic data out today
