April 19, 2016. The NZD is the strongest. The JPY is the weakest.

As NY traders enter for the trading day, the NZD is the strongest while the JPY is the weakest. The USD is more down, only rising against the Yen.

The NZDUSD broke to new highs going back to June 2015 and that has helped push the pair higher. Stocks are higher, oil is higher. The Global Dairy Trade prices are scheduled to be released later today. At the last auction, prices increased by 2.1%. The JPY is the weakest. The currency has risen against all the major currencies in trading today. A stronger stock market is helping with plus signs for all the major indices. US markets are also expected to open higher with the S&P futures up 9 points and Nasdaq futures up 31 points.

Oil today is trading back above $40 (at $40.17), up 0.95% on the day.

Building permits and housing starts will be released at 8:30 AM ET with building permits expected to come in at 1200K (vs 1167K last month). The housing starts are expected to fall ot 1166K vs 1178K last month. RBA Governor Stevens (speech has been prereleased, but he may solicit questions), BOE Carney and BOC Poloz are all scheduled to speak today.
