A public service announcement from your caring / sharing ForexLive 27 Feb

Nope, it's not a call to arms to save the UK from Brexit fall-out but it could well still help you and the economy ( who says I don't care about my own country?!)

The £1 coin is being replaced next month, for the first time in 30 years, by a new 12-sided version and you'll only have until 15 October to cash in any of your current ones. The move is an attempt to stem the rise in circulation of fakes which are now estimated to be 1 in 30.

Even as I type I can hear the sound of breaking china piggy-banks and glass bottles, frantic scurrying down the back of the sofa and wardrobes being shoved around as those lost coins are eagerly sought.

On average, people have £15 in £1 coins sitting around at home, with young adults aged 18 to 24 hoarding the most - £25 typically, the study revealed. A estimated total of £1.1bln.

Normally I wouldn't have found the urgency to put this kind and informative post out amongst you but a MasterCard survey tells us that 9 out of 10 of its UK customers are blissfully unaware of the deadline and only 17% of respondents said that they knew the new coin was entering circulation in March.
