Tokyo reports 107 new coronavirus cases today

Tokyo

That is the most since 2 May when the city was still in the midst of the state of emergency, with the Japanese capital now having reported more than 50 cases each day for a week.

Tokyo governor, Yuriko Koike, will address the press later but the government has said that they will be setting up a virus task force to try and deal with the situation amid some reports that the origins of the outbreak were unable to be traced.

So far, we're not seeing any business restrictions being reimposed just yet and it is a tricky time for Koike to be dealing with such delicate matters as she is to run for a second term as governor in a vote set to take place this weekend on Sunday.
