"There can be some retaliation but it can't be very substantial," he said. Trump means that China can retaliate but not much (before he escalates even further).
The G20 in Japan includes a meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors on June 8-9 along with the main summit on June 28-29. That's a long wait with tariffs kicking in on June 1.
Trump also said he will meet Putin at the G20.
The market bounced a bit on the $300B comment.
