LONDON (MNI) — The UK’s good trade deficit narrowed in September
as exports of goods rebounded, according to figures released by National
Statistics Tuesday.
The goods trade deficit narrowed to Stg8.228 billion in September,
from Stg8.473 billion in August. The outturn was broadly in line with
the median forecast for a shortfall of Stg8 billion.
The value of exports rose 2.2% on the month, following a 1.4% drop
last month, while imports increased by 0.8%.
The total trade gap, which includes services, narrowed to Stg4.57
billion from Stg4.889 billion, in line with the median forecast.
The shortfall with non-EU countries declined to Stg4.59 billion
from Stg4.664 billion. Exports to non-EU countries rose 4.4% while
imports were up 2.6%.
The trade deficit with EU countries narrowed to Stg3.638 billion in
September from Stg3.809 billion, as exports rose 0.2% and imports fell
0.9%.
