LONDON (MNI) – The UK’s goods trade deficit was virtually unchanged
in July as both exports and imports grew strongly to both hit record
levels during the month, figures released by National Statistics showed
Tuesday.
The global goods deficit stood at Stg8.922 billion in July, up very
slightly from Stg8.873 billion in June, although above the median
forecast of Stg8.6 billion.
Exports rose 5.6% on the month, while imports increased 4.3% taking
them both to record levels.
The stability in the headline numbers masked a deterioration in the
underlying deficit. Excluding oil and erratic items, the shortfall
widened to Stg8.243 billion in July from Stg7.678 billion in June.
