LONDON (MNI) – House prices in England and Wales in April posted
their fastest annual rise since September 2007, according to the
Land Registry.

The Land Registry’s House Price Index showed a 0.2% monthly rise
with prices 8.5% on the year. The Land Registry index follows divergent
April surveys by Halifax and Nationwide, which showed a fall of 0.1% on
the month and a rise of 1.0% respectively.

Land Registry highlighted the wide regional discrepancies in house
price inflation with London prices up 1.6% on the month to stand up

Lagging data showed a pick-up in housing market activity. In
November to February the number of completed house sales averaged
