UK PM May says UK's ambassador to the US has her full support
This is reference to the ambassador's report to his government being leaked and published.
The chap gave his unvarnished opinion, as is his job, but it leaked and his blunt assessment of the (lack of) competence in the US administration was not viewed kindly by the US.
UK PM Theresa May, statement via a spokesman says
- the ambassador has full support, his job is to provide honest reports
- US / UK relations based on history and values
This creates an interesting conundrum for the new PM. It appears its likely to be Boris Johnson. Johnson, upon ascent, may well fire the ambassador as some sort of good will (/obsequious) gesture to the US.
Who else is on the chopping block? Chancellor Hammond for one.
