Comments by UK PM spokesman James Slack

  • Confident of getting a Brexit deal
  • Have made real progress in Brexit talks
  • There remains a number of unresolved issues relating to backstop
  • Remains in continuous negotiation with the EU
  • No proposals to extend implementation period
  • Says that Theresa May is seeking to make a statement to parliament on Brexit
  • Awaiting approval from parliament authorities to make that statement

While the focus remains on the backstop, it must be made clear as well that Theresa May's team is seemingly wanting to push forward with a UK-wide customs agreement - something which the EU also does not want to budge on until the UK officially leaves. Plenty of headaches yet to come I reckon on Brexit negotiations over the next month.
