LONDON (MNI) – The U.K. Chancellor is set to scrap the annual
Pre-Budget Report and return to a slimmed-down Autumn Statement, the
Financial Times reported Monday, without citing sources.

The paper said the decision by George Osborne to ditch what had in
effect become a second annual Budget was in order to save resources at
the Treasury.

According to the FT, an autumn statement has been pencilled in for
late November or early December at which the Office for Budget
Responsibility (OBR) will outline the official economic forecast
alongside a brief statement and perhaps some consultation papers.
