If you were hoping for a rebound in risk trades to start the week, the headlines from Ukraine are bad news.
Pro-Russia militias captured local headquarters of the police and of the state security service in the Eastern Ukrainian region near Slaviansk on the weekend, with several combatants on both sides injured or killed. The attackers were dressed similarly to the men who took over parts of Crimea before it was annexed.
In Crimea, the Ukraine military and police forces stood down but this time president Turchinov has vowed a response. He said Ukrainian armed forces plan to launch a “full-scale anti-terrorist operation” unless the militants lay down their arms by Monday.
If bullets begin to fly, it’s a clear signal to exit risk trades.
