UK business minister Mandelson says the UK will not take an axe to public spending, saying you cannot deleverage both the private and public sector at the same time and expect growth.
His debating partner, Conservative Ken Clarke says as well as paying down borrowing, the UK needs to balance the economy to be less dependent on financial services. Exports are the key, he says.
