LONDON (MNI) – David Miles has been re-appointed for a second,
three year term as a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy
Committee, the Treasury announced Tuesday.

Miles first, three-year term of appointment was set to end on 31
May 2012 and it was announced in parliament that he will serve a second
term.

Miles has voted in line with his colleagues through the re-launch
of quantitative easing, in October, and the subsequent policy pause.

“The Chancellor has decided to re-appoint David Miles as external
member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England,” Chief
Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander told parliament.

Alexander said Chancellor George Osborne had written to the
Treasury Select Committee to inform it of the decision and it as up to
the TSC to decide if it wanted to hold reconfirmation hearings.

Miles’ “knowledge of the UK economy and background in the financial
sector will be invaluable to the Monetary Policy Committee,” Alexander
said.

Miles has worked as an economist for Morgan Stanley and in
academia, and has carried out work for the UK Treasury.
