Some good news, for some of the passengers at least.

Japan's health minister Kato says the plan is to begin disembarking some of the passengers today:

  • elderly with pre-existing conditions and those in rooms without windows will be given top priority.
  • evacuated passengers will be housed in accommodation provided by the government to for the remainder of their quarantine period

Not so good news:

  • Kato says 10 of those on the ship with the infection are in serious condition
  • some on artificial respirators or under intensive care,

The most recent update I have seen has a total of 218 people with the infection aboard the ship.

Also from Japan earlier, don't know if it has been covered here already:

  • A man in his 70s has tested positive for the new coronavirus after contact with a doctor at a hospital in western Japan, a local government said Friday.
  • The surgeon in his 50s was confirmed Thursday to have become the first doctor in Japan to be infected with the new virus, which originated in China.
