BERLIN (MNI) – The German government is very worried about the
outcome of the elections in Greece, Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Link
said Wednesday.

“The very strong extremist forces are very worrying for us,” Link
said at a meeting of the European affairs committee of parliament.

Greece needs to stick to the reform path agreed with its Eurozone
peers, the deputy minister stressed: “If this is not applied, we would
indeed enter a difficult situation.”

Still, he warned that “it would not be helpful for anybody if
Greece would be pushed out of the Eurozone.”

“We want Greece to remain successful inside the Eurozone,” the
deputy minister stressed.

The change of power in France will not affect the German-Franco
relationship, said Link, who is responsible for German-French matters in
the foreign ministry.

Past experience has shown that the German-French partnership has
always worked well regardless who was in power, Link said. “Thus, we can
be very relaxed about the change of power in France.”
