–Adds Comment On Fed’s QE Policy In Final Paragraph
BERLIN (MNI) – German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said
Friday that financial markets are currently not speculating against
individual Eurozone countries but are rather doubt the sustainability
of the European Monetary Union as a whole.
Speaking at a German-Franco conference in Genshagen near Berlin,
Schaeuble observed that the Eurozone is currently in a difficult
situation.
“We are currently in a phase where financial markets are doubting
again if it can be sustainable to have a common monetary policy but not
a common fiscal policy,” he said.
“It is less about speculation against single countries,” Schaeuble
observed.
Schaeuble again criticized the Federal Reserve’s policy of trying
to stimulate the U.S. economy by a massive increase of liquidity.
“I don’t think that this will work,” he said.
