–Rep. Boehner: GOP Determined To ‘Lay The Groundwork’ For Tax Reform
–Rep. Boehner: House To Vote For 1 YR Bush Tax Cut Extend This Month

WASHINGTON (MNI) – House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday that
the House is doing all it can to avert the so-called fiscal cliff, and
blasted Senate Democrats and President Obama for the uncertainty
surrounding the fiscal cliff.

“The House has acted to replace the sequester,” Boehner said,
referring to the scheduled $110 billion in spending cuts for the 2013
fiscal year that are set to begin in January.

“We’ve done our job,” he said.

Boehner said the White House’s budget office should provide details
on how it will “implement” the across-the-board spending cuts.

“The sequestration is happening because the President didn’t lead,”
he said.

Boehner said that Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid
worked to prevent the Super Committee from reaching a deficit reduction
agreement last fall.

“They worked to undermine the work of the Super Committee,” Boehner
charged.

Boehner repeated that the House will vote later this month to
extend the Bush era tax cuts for a year and said the Democratic plan to
extend tax cuts only for those making $250,000 or less would “tank” the
American economy.

Boehner said a full one-year extension of the Bush era tax cuts is
a necessary step and said Republicans are determined to “lay the
groundwork” for fundamental tax reform.

Finally, Boehner said the House will wait for the Senate to act on
legislation to grant permanent normal trade relations with Russia before
deciding how it will act.

He said that he expects that “long-term” the Jackson-Vanik trade
law is “likely to be repealed.”
