US DATA: December TICS data show net foreign purchases of US long-term
securities at a solid $65.9bn (vs Nov +$85.1 unrev), with net foreign
purchases of $76.8 bn offset by US resident purchases of $10.9 bn of
foreign securities. Within the $76.8 b of foreign purchases of US secs,
$66.3 bn were by private investors (mostly Tsys, +equities and agencies)
and $10.5 bn by foreign official institutions.

Monthly net TIC flows were $48.2 bn which showed private net flows of
+$93.3 bn offset by official flows of -$45.1 bn, a historical low.

US Tsys by country show China -$4.0 bn, Japan +$6.4 bn, UK +$29.5 bn,
OPEC +$7.6 bn, Brazil -$3.6 bn, Carib +$9.3 bn, Russia -$16.3 bn, Sing
+$10.7 bn.
