US DATA: Oct IBD/TIPP Econ Optimism Index +2.2 pts, or 4.2%, to 54.0 in
an Oct 2-7 poll. All 3 components rose, with 6m outlook +3.9 pts,
personal fin’l outlook +2.0, and confidence in fed’l policies +0.8. In
Oct survey, 18 of 21 groups improved and the text says Democrats
continued upbeat and Republicans posted the biggest optimism gains
perhaps due to the good Romney debate performance. Text noted that
gas prices and unemployment remain high. In any case IBD/TIPP econ
optimism is at its highest since Jan 2011 when it was 51.9, and lasting
election effects are unclear. Optimism fell in Oct’08 during prior Pres.
election but was up in Nov’08. Optimism stands 6.4 pts above its 12m
avg, suggesting other confidence indicators should gain.
