–House and Senate Approve Stop-Gap Spending Bill To Fund Gov Til Dec 3
–Senate Approves Yellen, Raskin On Voice Vote

WASHINGTON (MNI) – With the annual appropriations process in
disarray, the House and Senate passed a stop-gap spending bill Thursday
evening that funds the federal government until Dec. 3.

The bill was necessary because none of the 12 annual spending bills
have been passed by Congress. The 2011 fiscal year begins Friday.

The Senate approved the stop-gap bill on a 69 to 30 vote. The House
approved the measure on a 228 to 194 vote.

Late Thursday night, the Senate also voted to confirm Janet Yellen
as vice chairman of the Federal Reserve Board and Sarah Bloom Raskin as
a governor.

Several Republican senators, led by Richard Shelby, the ranking
Republican on the Banking Committee, continue to block the nomination of
Peter Diamond.

Diamond must be approved again by the Banking Committee before the
full Senate takes up his nomination.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that Federal
Reserve Board Chairman Ben Bernanke had called him this week, asking for
Senate action on the pending nominations to the Fed.
