WASHINGTON (MNI) – The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental
Affairs Committee voted Tuesday to approve Jack Lew to be the new White
House budget director.

The panel approved Lew on a 9 to 0 vote.

The Senate Budget Committee is also expected to vote on the Lew
nomination soon.

Senate Democratic leaders and the White House are hoping to win
Senate confirmation of Lew before Congress breaks in early October for
the midterm elections.

The White House is also hoping for Senate confirmation of President
Obama’s three nominations to the Federal Reserve Board this fall.
