S&P 500 futures up 17.5 points

US markets are slated to end the final trading day of the year on a good note. S&P 500 futures are up 17.5 points to 2503 after a 3 point decline on Friday. Dow futures are up almost 200 points.

On the weekend, President Trump said he had a "very good call" with Xi and said "big progress" was being made.

Today is a full day of trading on US and Canadian exchanges but it's generally a quiet one. But this holiday season has been anything but typical with some of the biggest stock market moves in years and massive volumes.

Virtually all markets are closed tomorrow for New Years Day.
