US stocks open lower. 5 day higher close string in jeopardy

Major indices down about -0.5%

The major US indices are opening in the red. That jeopardizes the 5 day higher close for each of those indices.

The snapshot of the market shows:
  • S&P index -13 points or -0.51% at 2583.63
  • NASDAQ index -39 points or -0.56% at 6947.14
  • Dow industrial average -117 points or -0.49% at 23888
In the US debt market yields are lowerL

  • 2year 2.534%, -4.0 basis points
  • 5 year 2.517%, -5.0 basis points
  • 10 year 2.691%, -5.0 basis points
  • 30 year 3.03%, -3.1 basis points
spot gold is trading up $1.50 or 0.12% at $1288.06. That is lower than the high at $1295.70.  The US dollar has moved higher of last hour erasing the gains in gold.

WTI crude oil futures are down $.96 or -23% at $51.63

The NZD remains the strongest, but the CAD has taken over as the weakest from the USD (from the start of the US trading day).  The USD has erased much of its declines vs the EUR (now higher), JPY, CHF, CAD. It is still lower vs the NZD, GBP and AUD.
