–Rep. Camp: Seeks ‘Dialogue’ on ‘Broad Based Tax Reform’
–Current Code Hampers Econ Growth, Job Creation

WASHINGTON (MNI) – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave
Camp said Thursday that next week his committee will hold its first
hearing on comprehensive tax reform, adding that he sees the session as
the “beginning of a dialogue” on how to fix the tax code.

In a statement, Camp said the first hearing on tax reform will be
Thursday, Jan 20 at 9 a.m. A list of witnesses will be released later.

Camp said his panel will hold a series of hearings in an attempt to
build support for “broad based tax reform.” He noted that this year will
be the 25th anniversary of the 1986 tax reform law which last overhauled
the federal tax code.

Camp said the current code is a “continued barrier to economic
growth and job creation.”

Camp did not say how he would like the code to be rewritten, but
noted that the U.S corporate tax rate is one of the highest in the
world.

President Obama is expected to focus heavily on tax reform during
his State of the Union address on Jan. 25.
