USD remains strong

As North American traders enter for the day, the JPY is the strongest currency. The EUR is the weakest and continues it's trend lower. The USD is stronger against all majors with the exception of the JPY.

Looking at the changes and ranges, the USD is making new highs vs the EUR, GBP, CHF in the early North American trading. The JPY crosses are near lows. European shares are mostly lower. The US market is mixed as earnings are a drag or push. The trading ranges vs the USD are so-so.

  • Spot gold is of $.43 or 0.03% at $1276.20
  • WTI crude oil futures are up $.27 or 0.39% at $66.15

In the pre-market for US stocks, the major indices are mixed. The Dow is down as 3M missed. It is subtracting about 100 points from the Dow. The Nasdaq is higher on Facebook and Microsoft. The S&P is marginally higher. The futures are implying:

  • Dow, -131 points
  • Nasdaq, +71 points
  • S&P, +2.5 points

3M, Southwest, Bristol Myers Squibb and Comcast are some of the names that have already reported earnings this morning.

After the close, Intel, Amazon and Starbucks will release. Tomorrow Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Sony and Colgate-Palmolive are expected to release.
