Doubling Down (DD) is a popular social media expression, popularized by the infamous /r/wallstreetbets subreddit. It can have one of two meanings:
Due Diligence
a crucial aspect of any investment strategy, due diligence, simply put, refers to the research the investor will put behind it's gameplan or, as it very much happens in the case of wallstreetbets, a YOLO type of investment.
Real DD is often upvoted and met with praise as it involves either technical analysis, reading the company's earning reports, understanding it's PE, revenue streams and future avenues.
However, regardless of the amount of research posted on a certain topic, Wallstreetbets posts which promote a stock or any sort of play are more often than not met with a call for "positions or ban" as it serves as proof of the user's commitment towards said strategy.
Soon after r/wallstreetbets surge in popularity and massive incitement towards several different plays, several other subreddits have been created with the sole purpose of collecting and compiling relevant, well-researched DD's for either a specific ticker (like r/DDintoGME) or for several different ones (as shown in r/PennystocksDD).
Doubling down is defined by wallstreetbets users themselves and this expression means that "Any time someone mentions a stock and the acronym "DD" in the same sentence, they're telling you to throw all your money at it because it's a promising investment looking to increase in value."
DD is obviously accompanied by a very bullish sentiment towards a certain security, especially if it's price is going down, which will also serve as a call for other users to join in on the action.
